Martinsville
Sponsored by The Martinsville Garden Club and The Garden Study Club
10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Along the Neighborhood Paths” is the theme of this tour that includes four homes and one garden, all located in the Hunt Country Farms/King’s Grant area of Martinsville. In 1770 King George III granted George Hairston the right to purchase 30,000 acres of land, which became known as the Beaver Creek Plantation. Twenty years ago, land grant property was purchased from the Hairston family. Of that, 120 acres were donated to Sunnyside Retirement Communities for development of King’s Grant Retirement Community in Henry County, and 1,075 acres of the adjacent property was developed as a residential area and named Hunt Country Farms. This neighborhood features large tracts of land, preserving the natural beauty of the surroundings. These purchases marked the first time these parcels of land passed out of the original land grant. Ranging from a three-story Colonial to a charming cottage, highlights of homes on this tour include an impressive variety of antiques.
